We often hear the advice to “love what you do,” but what does that mean? Is it about finding the perfect job or finding joy and purpose in the work we are already doing?

We will explore learning to love your work and how it can transform your career. Join me, Alan Wozniak, President of Business Health Matters, as we dive into the power of falling in love with your work and its remarkable impact on your life.

Facts:

1. I’ve loved my job cutting grass:

One of my first jobs as a young person was cutting grass for my neighbors. At first, it seemed like a simple task, but I soon discovered the joy it brought to my customers’ faces when I completed the job excellently. Seeing their satisfaction and knowing that I had positively impacted their day filled me with a sense of fulfillment and love for my work.

2. I’ve loved my job as a newspaper delivery boy:

Delivering newspapers may not sound glamorous, but it taught me the value of helping others stay connected to the world around them. Being a newspaper delivery boy meant ensuring my customers received their morning news promptly and reliably. It was a small service, but the joy it brought to their lives and the difference it made in their day filled me with a sense of contribution and purpose, igniting a love for the job.

3. I loved my job selling Tang at my front yard stand:

While others sold lemonade, I decided to be different and sell Tang. This unique venture brought an astronaut client to me by the name of Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon. This entrepreneurial endeavor also taught me the joy of quenching people’s thirst on a hot summer day and providing them with a unique experience. Every glass of Tang served was an opportunity to bring a smile to someone’s face and create a moment of refreshment, a feeling I cherish to this day.

4. I love my job as a construction worker:

Working as a construction worker has allowed me to be part of building dreams. Seeing a project come to life brick by brick and being able to contribute to creating something tangible and meaningful has filled me with a deep sense of fulfillment. The camaraderie among the team and pride in our work have fostered a love for the construction industry and its significant impact on people’s lives.

5. I loved my job as a gas station attendant:

As a gas station attendant, my role was to help people with their cars, pump gas, and check for oil. It may seem like a small task, but it taught me how to offer assistance and create positive experiences for others. Whether it was providing directions, filling up their tanks, or simply offering a friendly smile, I found joy in making people’s lives a little easier and brighter.

6. I loved my job as an entrepreneur in the HVAC/environmental business:

My journey as an entrepreneur in the HVAC/environmental industry has been incredible. The initial 25 years saw limited growth, though, in my last 4 years of ownership, we grew the business by 370% and earned recognition on the INC 5000 list four times. What fueled my love for this job was the ability to help my clients create healthy buildings and healthy working environments. Knowing that my work contributed to the well-being of others brought a sense of purpose and passion to every project. Because of the love of my business, owners of a Fortune 500 S&P firm saw this passion and love and sought to buy my small business.
